Ben,
I truly identify with your post. Journalism has got me down in a bad way as of late. It's increasingly frustrating, and I hate that it's a reality that I may soon have to leave the only career I've wanted since I was a teenager. When you're that passionate about something, it stings when it begins to fall apart. Couple that with pay cuts and rising living expenses and tons of negativity in the workplace, and it's hard to carry on. But you're absolutely right about taking more time for the small things. Every day I get to see the sun set on my drive home, and I ALWAYS stop processing these life thoughts and let myself focus on its beauty. I think I need to do more though. I need to go camping! Thanks for the thoughtful post.

Robert, thanks a bunch for your comment. I am fascinated by the idea that writing actually allows us to access a totally different part of our brains. Incredibly interesting.

All the best to you.

IMHO, one of the things that is highly valued in our country is comfort. And like anything we are used to, people get really upset when its messed with at all. I'm not saying people shouldn't be nervous about losing their job or an uncertain future - that stuff is real. But according to God's promises, we shouldn't be anxious about anything, but in all things make our concerns known to God - so that the peace that passes all understanding can dwell in our hearts. I often meditate on that passage - which powerfully counteracts the cacophony of fearful voices.

I agree with you Ben, that this is a time to remember priorities. To remember that money (or comfort) never equates to happiness.

@Bob - that brain lighting up thing is really interesting. It must have something to do with tapping into the creative, non-analytical side of the brain. As a photographer myself, I find it hard to tap into that side when shooting - maybe I should try writing before I go to an assignment!

I appreciate your transparency and I found comfort and a little more ease when I read your blog. Although the struggle is real for both of us it is mitigated at least for me by knowing I am not alone. I also liked your revelation about your process of writing. Its more finding than creation. That's great-Thanks

My friends in neuro-science tell me that that when people write a different part of the brain lights up then when they speak. Perhaps writing can offer a deeper integration of thought, emotion and action.

I enjoyed reading your play by play thoughts. While I personally don't put faith in politics to save us, I do feel much more at peace and unified with my fellow americans. I think the effect that the feeling of hope and unity will have on our country cannot be underestimated.
