BRUINS TO SALT LAKE
2013
Belmont showcased one of its best ever Basketball teams in 2013. Four members of the team went on to play professional basketball after graduating, including Ian Clark, who has played for both the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. 2013 Bruins Kerron Johnson, Trevor Noack, and JJ Mann each went on to play professional basketball overseas.
At the end of their stellar 2012-2013 season, Belmont won an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Their opponent in the first round were the talented Arizona Wildcats, who outsized the Bruins by a significant margin. These images chronicle the Bruins trip to Salt Lake City, Utah for the NCAA Tournament.
Arizona dominated the first half of the game. The sheer size and strength of the Wildcats' team was (as often the case) both staggering and too much for the smaller Bruins' team to handle. The halftime score favored Arizona 32-20. It was a sobering moment for the Bruins, players and fans alike. Below, the team retakes the floor prior to the start of the second half.
